Shimla, September 1
The Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) has registered a revenue growth of 37.5 per cent this August compared to the corresponding period last year. Against Rs 51 crore earned in August 2023, the HRTC earned Rs 70 crore this month.
HRTC Managing Director Rohan Chand Thakur has attributed the jump in revenue to the day-to-day monitoring of revenue targets, regular reviews, route rationalisation and efforts by the corporation to keep operations running despite severe monsoons and route disruptions.
Factoring in the revenue receipts of August, the corporation has earned Rs 48 crore more in the April-August period this year, compared to the corresponding period last year.
Thanks to the increase in the revenue, the HRTC has not only been able to make payments to its suppliers of spare parts and diesel on time, but also is in a position to meet its salary commitments despite the reduction in the government grant.
“The new ticket management and inventory management systems have helped hugely in passenger ease and cost management. It is hoped that this fiscal year, HRTC revenues can be as much as Rs 80 crore more than the last year,” said Thakur.
