Dharamsala, June 18
The Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HPRTC) at a meeting of Board of Directors today decided to give the Sixth Pay Commission benefits to its employees.
Minister for Transport and Industry Bikram Thakur, while talking to mediapersons here, said that the HRTC employees would get the Sixth Pay Commission scales from next month. The exercise would put a financial burden Rs 12 crore on the HRTC, he added.
The minister said that the HRTC board also decided that if an employee dies while on duty, a job would be given to his next of kin in the corporation within three months of death. He added that the board also accepted the government decision to give 50 per cent discount in fares to women in HRTC buses from July 1 on all inter-state routes.
He said that the HRTC would raise a loan of Rs 110 crore to pay arrears to the employees. He added that 704 piecemeal workers had been absorbed in the HRTC on the contractual basis. The remaining 229 piecemeal workers would be absorbed in the corporation by September, as and when vacancies arise.
