HRTC to launch national common mobility card
Shimla, July 11
The HRTC is working towards digital transactions for the convenience of commuters and the collection of data that could be used in policy-making.
Can also be used in Delhi Metro
- It’s a prepaid travel card that can be used across travel networks in the country. The card holders can use this in Delhi Metro and any other travel network, said Rohan Chand Thakur, MD, HRTC
- The other big advantage of the prepaid travel card over the UPI payment system is that it will not require Internet to function
While the HRTC has already started the online payment facility for passengers to pay the bus fare, it will shortly introduce a national common mobility card to further facilitate cashless transactions. “It’s a prepaid travel card that can be used across travel networks in the country. The card holders can use this in Delhi Metro and any other travel network,” said Rohan Chand Thakur, MD, HRTC.
Thakur said the other big advantage of the prepaid travel card over the UPI payment system was that it wouldn’t require Internet to function. The card could be used for shopping as well by the customers who opt to complete the KYC process. “The limited KYC process will allow the person to use it merely as a travel card,” he added.
The HRTC MD is also looking at generating data through digital transactions that would help in policy-making for the cash-strapped corporation. “Travel for women is free in our buses, and there are 27 categories of people who get to travel at subsidised rates. Shorty, we will start issuing zero tickets, which will give us the data which we do not have at the moment. The government can have a look at this data while deciding the grants for the corporation,” said Thakur.
