To curb the increasing cybercrime cases in Himachal Pradesh, the state police have decided to set up a state-of-the-art Cyber Forensic Lab named ‘i-Crack’ (Investigation Aided Cyber Forensic Repository Analysis and Core Keyframe). The initiative aims to expedite cybercrime investigations and take stringent action against the offenders.

Equipped with advanced technology, the lab will have a team of cyber experts who will conduct in-depth investigations, analyze digital evidence, and assist in apprehending cybercriminals. These specialists will work towards resolving various cybercrime cases and ensuring justice. Additionally, the lab will focus on raising awareness about cyber security, educating citizens on protecting themselves from online fraud.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of State CID Cybercrime, Mohit Chawla, stated that the primary objective of ‘i-Crack’ is to streamline the investigation process and prevent cybercrimes. He emphasized the importance of public awareness, as educating people about online scams is one of the most effective ways to combat cyber threats.

Expressing concern over the growing number of cybercrime cases in India and Himachal Pradesh, Chawla highlighted that scammers are constantly adopting innovative methods to deceive people, leading to significant financial losses. In response to these challenges, the Himachal Pradesh Police Department has established the cyber forensic lab to strengthen cybersecurity measures and enhance investigative capabilities.

At present, the state receives nearly 400 cybercrime complaints daily, with digital arrests being the most commonly reported cases. The police urge citizens to remain vigilant and report any cyber fraud immediately on helpline number 1930.
