IIAS holds special lecture on Birsa Munda

A special lecture was organised on Wednesday at the Indian Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS) to mark the closing ceremony of the 150th birth anniversary year of Birsa Munda. The event was conducted in accordance with the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Education, Government of India.

The programme commenced with a welcome address delivered by Mehar Chand Negi, Secretary, Indian Institute of Advanced Study. This was followed by a special lecture by National Fellow Prof Ramesh Chandra Sinha on the theme “The contributions of Bhagwan Birsa Munda”.

In his detailed presentation, Prof Sinha highlighted the life and struggles of Birsa Munda, his resolute resistance against colonial oppression and his pivotal role in awakening social consciousness within the tribal communities. He emphasised that Birsa Munda remains an enduring and inspirational figure in the collective memory of India’s freedom movement.

National Fellow Prof Sachidananda Mohanty was also present on the occasion. The programme witnessed the participation of National Fellows, Tagore Fellows, Fellows, IUC Associates, officers and staff members of the institute in large numbers.
