Among the engineering institutes of the nation, IIT-Mandi has been ranked 31st. Last year, it was ranked 33rd.

Shoolini University of Biotechnology and Management Sciences has earned the 92nd rank among the engineering colleges. It has improved its ranking from being placed in the 101-150 rank band last year, while the National Institute of Technology, Hamirpur, continues to figure in the 101-150 rank band.

No other management or engineering institute figures in the top 100 ranks nationally. The state draws a blank in the research institutions, law, dental and medical colleges categories across the country.

Among the top universities of the country, Solan’s Shoolini University has been ranked 70th .

With a score of 48.82 per cent, this Solan university has attained the top rank among other private universities of the state. It has enhanced its ranking from 73rd last year and has been ranked in the top 100 slot for the fourth successive year. The university also figures at the 30th position among pharmacy colleges.

In the overall category, Shoolini University figures at the 89th position among top 100 institutes of the nation. No college from the state finds a mention in this category.

There are 17 private universities in the state, operating since the last almost one-and-a-half decade, but majority of them have never figured in this significant list.

Various parameters — like student strength, faculty-student ratio, faculty with PhD, financial resources and utilisation, online education, multiple entry/exit, Indian knowledge system and regional languages, placement and higher studies, graduation outcome, research and professional practice, publications, citations, patents, research projects — were evaluated for ranking universities across the country.
