IIT-Mandi receives donation from US-based philanthropist
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Mandi, has received a donation amounting to $85,000 from Mohinder L Nayyar, a US-based philanthropist and a proud alumnus of IIT-Roorkee. It marks the largest donation ever received from a US-based philanthropist to the IIT-Mandi/DORA Office, setting a new milestone in support of the IIT’s mission.
A spokesperson of IIT-Mandi said, “This donation will be used to create the IIT-Mandi Endowment Fund to promote and recognise excellence. It is expected to take a significant stride in moving forward the overall quality of research at IIT-Mandi, supporting needy students while enhancing academic excellence in higher education.”
“To ensure the effective use of the funds, a tripartite MoU has been signed between Nayyar, IIT-Mandi, and the IIT-Roorkee foundation with an objective to promote academic growth and nurture talent in line with the long-term vision of the institute,” he added. Laxmidhar Behera, director, IIT-Mandi, and Varun Dutt, dean, resource generation and alumni relations, emphasised the importance of philanthropic contributions in strengthening the academic and research ecosystem.
