Illegal ziplines grounded in Sissu, Koksar areas
Operators warned of strict action under tourism and safety laws
Keylong SDM Kalyani Tiwana has ordered the immediate suspension of all unlicensed zipline operations in the Sissu and Koksar areas of Lahaul-Spiti district. In an official statement, Tiwana said several operators were found conducting zipline activities without mandatory registration or approval from the Department of Tourism, a clear violation of the Himachal Pradesh Adventure Activities Rules, 2017 (amended in 2021) and the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development and Registration Act, 2002.
The SDM directed that all such operators must cease operations immediately until they secure the required permissions from the Tourism Department.
“Any operator found running ziplines without valid authorisation will face strict legal action under relevant laws,” Tiwana cautioned, adding that in case of any mishap, the entire responsibility will lie with the operator.
The move aims to ensure public safety and enforce regulatory compliance amid the growing popularity of adventure tourism in Lahaul, which has witnessed a surge in visitors following the opening of the Atal Tunnel.
Authorities have also urged tourists to verify operator credentials before taking part in any adventure activity.
