Kullu: Importance of soil health card explained at awareness camp

An awareness camp on soil health was organised at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya at Bandrolin in Kullu district yesterday. Information related to soil testing, importance of nutrients found in soil and soil health card was imparted at the camp oragnised by the Agriculture Department, ATMA, DRDA and the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Bajaura.
Detailed information was given to the participants on agriculture-related mobile app and portal soilhealth.dac.gov.in. Agriculture experts said that the Soil Health Card Portal was a web and smartphone-based application developed for the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. It facilitated the creation of soil health cards in 22 different languages and five dialects for the benefit of farmers in a uniform and standardised format across the country.
“A soil health card provides a farmer with the nutrient status of his land and gives long-term recommendations on the dosage of fertilisers, bio-fertilisers, organic fertilisrs as well as amendments to maintain soil health over time,” the experts said. Dr Ratan Lal Sharma, Soil Swatter Testing Officer; Dr Sudhir Kumar, Sub-Project Director, ATMA; Dr Subhash Sharma, Soil Scientist, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Bajaura were among those present at the event.
