In the aspirational Chamba district, an amount of about Rs 118 crore has been spent on various works of rural development under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) in the past two years.

Chamba Deputy Commissioner Vivek Bhatia said 93.30 lakh working days had also been generated under the MGNREGA in the aspirational district. Moreover, the development works had been given impetus despite the Covid-19 crisis, he stated.

Bhatia said under the 14th Finance Commission, a sum of about Rs 93.27 crore was released to gram panchayats for various works. The cash books of all gram panchayats, panchayat samitis and zila parishads had been made online 100 per cent under Panchayati Raj Institution Accounting Software (PRIASoft) initiative of the government, he said.
