Shimla: A 32-year-old woman has tested positive for scrub typhus at Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital in Shimla. The woman hails from Shimla. As many as eight samples were tested for scrub typhus, out of which one tested positive. The disease generally surfaces during monsoon. As per medical experts, people generally contract this disease while working in fields, mainly while cutting grass, where the mite that spreads the disease is present. People suffering from the disease develop high grade fever and joint pain. People are advised to visit their nearest health facility on noticing such symptoms. The diseases, in some cases, can prove fatal. TNS
DC, SP inspect key roads in Kinnaur
Shimla: In view of the upcoming apple season and to ensure its smooth operation, Kinnaur DC Dr Amit Kumar Sharma and SP Abhishek Shekhar on Wednesday inspected the district’s main connecting roads. During the visit, they issued necessary instructions to the concerned officials. They inspected the roads connecting Chaura, Nathpa, Nigulsari, Nichar and Wangtu and directed the PWD officials to pay attention to the maintenance of these routes. They emphasised importance of deploying machinery and labour at vulnerable spots to prevent any obstacle in transporting horticultural produce, especially apples to the fruit markets. Additionally, the officers in-charge of local police stations were instructed to deploy traffic cops at key locations to manage movement during high-traffic season. TNS
