Nahan: The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of Sirmaur police seized 1.25 kg of charas near Johdo, at Nehar Wali Sadak. The illicit substance was recovered from two individuals, both residents of Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, who were travelling on a motorcycle. The accused, identified as 25-year-old Ankit and 19-year-old Sujit, were apprehended during routine surveillance by the SIU. Upon thorough inspection, charas was recovered from their possession. A case has been registered under Sections 20, 25 and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Majra police station. The confiscated charas is valued at several lakhs. Authorities have intensified their probe to trace the source of the contraband and ascertain the duo’s role in the larger drug trade.

Water supply to be hit on Jan 5-6

Shimla: Water supply to Shimla will be disrupted on January 5 and 6 due to the shutdown of 66-kv power transmission line. During the shutdown, pumping activity of WSS Gumma and Giri will remain affected. Shimla Jal Prabandhan Nigam Limited, which procures and supplies water in Shimla, has advised the residents to use water judiciously to ensure they do not face any inconvenience. The 66-kv Jutogh-Gumma-Sanj-Hulli transmission line will be shut down for carrying out lopping of trees to clear the transmission line’s right of way and to maintain reliable supply during the ongoing winter season.

67-yr-old Haroli man found dead

Una: The body of an elderly man was found by locals near the DAV School in Una city. The police reached the spot and took possession of the body. ASP Sanjeev Bhatia said the deceased has been identified as 67-year-old Subhash Chander, a resident of Haroli in Una district. He said the death appears to have been caused due to hypothermia. However, the body has been sent for a postmortem examination to know the exact cause of the death.
