The Indian Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS) celebrated a significant transition in leadership with a heartfelt farewell to former director Prof Nageshwar Rao and a warm welcome for incoming director Prof Raghavendra P Tiwari.

Prof Tiwari is serving as the Vice Chancellor of the Central University of Punjab, Bathinda. The event was attended by fellows and employees of the Institute.

Prof Tiwari, in his inaugural address, shared his vision for the future of IIAS, emphasising the importance of innovative research, interdisciplinary collaboration and global engagement. He expressed his enthusiasm for working with the institute’s talented fellows and staff to further its mission.

The event was graced by the virtual presence of Prof Shashi Prabhakumar, chairperson of IIAS and Prof Shailendra Raj Mehta, vice-chairman of IIAS, who addressed the gathering and highlighted Prof Rao’s contributions and the institute’s progress under his leadership.

Prof Rao’s tenure was marked by significant academic achievements and the strengthening of IIAS’ position as a premier research institute. In his farewell address, Prof Rao expressed his gratitude to the institute’s staff and fellows for their unwavering support and dedication.

Prof J.K. Rai, convener of the Fellows’ Council, highlighted the collaborative spirit and academic rigour that define IIAS.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by IIAS secretary Mehar Chand Negi, acknowledging the contributions of both directors and the institute’s community for their support and dedication.
