SP, Kangra, Ashok Rattan said that on a tip-off, a special police team launched an operation in the Barol area near Dharamsala and apprehended the youth identified as Lakshya, a resident of Indora in the district. The police recovered 575 grams of charas and Rs 27,000 from his possession.

A preliminary investigation revealed that Lakshya had been involved in the illegal drug trade for quite some time and was under police surveillance. The SP said that the drug peddler had recently travelled to Dharamsala with a large consignment of charas and was staying at a friend’s residence in Barol.

Upon receiving the input, a special police team conducted a late-night raid and nabbed the accused red-handed with drugs and ill-gotten money. The police seized the contraband and the cash in the presence of witnesses, he added.

Rattan said that a case had been registered under Section 20 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Dharamsala police station and further investigation was underway to ascertain the wider network of the illegal supply chain.
