Industries Minister Harshwardhan Chauhan reaffirmed the state government’s dedication to strengthening the education system while addressing the annual function of Government College, Kaffota, as the chief guest. He emphasised the government’s efforts to provide quality education in rural areas, ensuring that students from all backgrounds have access to modern learning opportunities.

The minister highlighted the introduction of cutting-edge courses in technical institutions, including Artificial Intelligence, Drone Training, Data Science and Machine Learning, aimed at making education more employment-oriented. In addition, agriculture and horticulture have been introduced as optional subjects in schools to equip students with practical knowledge relevant to the region.

Chauhan took the opportunity to honour students excelling in academics, sports and cultural activities, recognising their hard work and dedication. Remembering former Chief Minister late Virbhadra Singh, he credited him for establishing Kaffota College, which continues to benefit students from remote areas. He emphasised that Virbhadra Singh always prioritised education, ensuring that even children in far-flung regions could receive quality learning opportunities.

In a significant announcement, the minister pledged Rs 15 lakh for the development of the Kaffota College sports ground, acknowledging the region’s growing reputation for producing talented athletes who have brought pride to the state at national and international levels. He also gave a heartfelt assurance that no student would be deprived of education due to financial constraints, stating that he would personally support underprivileged students if needed.

The minister proudly shared that the state government has successfully introduced English-medium education from Class 1 in all government schools, fulfilling a key promise. To further enhance educational infrastructure, Rajiv Gandhi Day-Boarding Schools equipped with modern facilities are being established across assembly constituencies, including one soon to be inaugurated in Sataun, under the Shillai constituency.

Speaking about the ongoing development projects, he informed the gathering that over Rs 200 crore worth of development work is currently underway in the Shillai constituency. He also provided an update on the Industrial Training Institute (ITI) project in Kaffota, stating that 90% of the work has been completed and that the institute would soon be ready to benefit local students.

The minister praised the government’s commitment to expanding higher education opportunities across Himachal Pradesh. He highlighted that 850 institutions have been designated as Centres of Excellence, with a strong focus on quality and inclusive education. Additionally, the government has appointed 120 college principals and over 483 assistant professors, ensuring that students receive the best academic guidance. To prevent disruptions in education, a ban on mid-session teacher transfers has also been implemented.

Expressing concern over the rising menace of drug abuse, the minister urged students to stay away from narcotics and lead a positive and productive life. He emphasised that the youth have the power to break the cycle of drug addiction and contribute to building a healthier society.

College Principal Dr Kuldeep Singh welcomed the minister with a shawl, cap and memento, while also presenting the annual college report. He proudly announced that Kaffota College has secured the top rank among Tier-3 colleges in Himachal Pradesh, as per the recent ranking by the Directorate of Higher Education.
