A 56-year-old woman succumbed to her injuries after she was shot by her husband—who was in an inebriated state—at Radhodhar village near Dharampur around 8:30 pm on Sunday.
The woman, Shakuntla, was rushed to the community health centre (CHC) at Dharampur as her back was grievously wounded. She was later referred to MMU medical college where she succumbed to her injuries.
Parwanoo DSP, Yogesh Rolta, said the incident occurred when Shakuntla Devi was having dinner in the kitchen and the family had bolted a wire mesh door to confine the 61-year-old Meher Chand inside a room as he was in an inebriated state.
Chand was angry after requests to let him out were not acceded to by the family members. In a fit of rage, he shot at his wife and injured Shakuntla’s back. She was immediately rushed to CHC, Dharampur by other family members.
Meher Chand was arrested by the police and a case was registered under the relevant sections of the IPC and the Arms Act.
The post mortem of the deceased has been conducted and further probe was underway.
