  • The Vice-Chancellors of 10 private universities have been found ineligible
  • Two were overage, while 8 others did not have the requisite qualifications and fulfil the UGC criteria
  • 100 private colleges have submitted the biodata of principals to the regularity commission
  • A two-member committee to verify the documents

The VCs of 10 of the 17 private universities in Himachal were found ineligible as per the criteria laid down by the UGC. While two of them were overage, eight others did not have the requisite qualifications and fulfil the criteria.

Maj Gen Atul Kaushik (retd), chairman of the commission, said while three VCs had resigned, six had represented their case along with additional documents, which would be heard on December 21.

Following complaints, the commission had sought the details of qualifications (Class X onwards) and experience of the incumbent VCs of the private universities, which were scrutinised by a committee.

Meanwhile, the Himachal Pradesh Private Educational Institutions Regularity Commission has decided to constitute a two-member committee to verify the biodata and other relevant documents of the principals of private colleges in the state.

As many as 100 private colleges in the state have submitted the biodata of principals to the commission while almost an equal number of institutes are yet to submit the same. A two-member committee would be constituted to verify the documents.

“The fake degree scam has tarnished the image of the state. We are taking all necessary steps to bring transparency and end malpractices,” said Kaushik.
