Shimla, March 20
The government has ordered an inquiry into the alleged negligence in the case in which a pre-mature new-born baby was declared dead but she was alive at Kamla Nehru Hospital.
Vijay Kumar of Kullu had brought his wife Raj Kumari to Shimla after being referred here from Nerchowk Medical College. The baby girl was born yesterday morning and the father was told by the hospital staff that the girl’s pulse rate was very low and the possibility of her survival was bleak.
Vijay said later he was informed that the baby had died. “However, to utter surprise of my mother-in-law, when she went to get the body from the tray, the baby cried,” he said.
He wanted responsibility to be fixed for his daughter being inside the box for 11 hours after being declared dead. The inquiry will be conducted by a Joint Director-level officer to see if there was negligence at any level.
He said they were taking out the baby from the tray to bury her. He met Education Minister Suresh Bhradwaj seeking an inquiry. He also alleged misbehavior by the hospital staff.
The Medical Superintendent, Kamla Nehru Hospital, said the inquiry would be conducted while adding that the baby was unlikely to survive as she was pre-mature and weighed only 800 gram.
