International workshop at Shoolini

A two-day international workshop on “Advanced Materials for Engineering and Solar Energy Applications” was held at Shoolini University’s School of Physics and Materials Science and School of Mechanical and Civil Engineering in association with Cranfield University, Bedfordshire, UK. Vice Chancellor Prof PK Khosla said the university had widely invested in implanting solar energy-based technologies and a project report had been submitted to the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy under “Green Campus” project. The Guest of Honour was President of the Foundation for Life Sciences and Business Management and the function was presided over by Dr Sameer Rahatekar from Cranfield University. The convener of the workshop, Dr Rajesh Kumar Sharma, said the workshop had been supported by the Royal Academy of Engineering, London, UK, under the project “Industry-Academia Partnership Programme”. Delegates from 15 institutions and industries participated in the event.

NSUI activists submit a memorandum to the DC in Shimla.

NSUI activists protest against CAA

The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) on Tuesday staged a protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and brutal thrashing of students by the police in Delhi. NSUI activists led by its Shimla district president Yogesh Thakur submitted a memorandum addressed to the President of India to the Deputy Commissioner, demanding action against the erring cops. He said: “In a democratic country, every citizen has the right to protest in a peaceful manner and the use of force by the Delhi Police on the directions of the Centre is highly condemnable.” The activists said the CAA was against the secular spirit of the Constitution.

Officials of Nauni University and Ludhiana-based firm, Soft-Tech Renewable Energies, exchange MoUs.

MoU inked for renewable energy

The Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, signed MoU with Ludhiana-based Soft-Tech Renewable Energies to collaborate for seeking renewable energy funds. Besides, working on the development of solar “chulha” for cooking, space and water heating, the two institutions will also undertake research on thermally efficient solar drier with phase change material and solar thermal application for waste water treatment. They will also design renewable energy systems for potential technologies and applications and also evaluate the system performance as well as file joint patents of innovative ideas during the execution of MoU. An MoU with Atal Bihari Vajpayee Government Institute of Engineering and Technology, Pragatinagar, for co-operation in the fields of landscaping, food processing and apple cultivation was also signed by the university. The tie-up will involve the exchange of scientific and technical information. The MoUs were signed by Director Research Dr JN Sharma in the presence of Vice Chancellor Dr Parvinder Kaushal.

Students sing Christmas carols at St Bede’s College.

St Bede’s celebrates Christmas

Christmas was celebrated in St Bede’s College as the classes will end on December 21. The function was graced by Sister Marina and Principal Dr Nandini Pathania. A student choir sung Christmas carols. Santa Claus distributed candies among staff members and students.
