Hardeep Singh Baba and Sita Ram Saini, president and general secretary, respectively, of the Himachal unit of the TradeIndian NationalUnion Congress (INTUC) today lashed out at the BJP government for betraying the daily wagers and casual workers, who are being forced to take to streets for their rights after rendering services for decades on meagre wages.

Addressing a state-level convention of INTUC here, both leaders said the government should enhance the wages of MGNREGA workers on a par with PWD workers. The top leadership of the Congress, including PCC president Pratibha Singh, Leader of the Opposition Mukesh Agnihotri and campaign committee head Sukhvinder Singh were present. The INTUC submitted a 20-point memorandum to the Congress leadership for its implementation, if the Congress is voted to power in the Assembly elections.

The INTUC criticised the BJP for backtracking on promises made to the daily wagers before the elections in 2017. They assailed the state government for not making timely payments to the MGNREGA workers. They said thousands of workers were yet to get their wages in many districts. They demanded minimum wages of Rs 18,000 for the staff.
