ITBP wins women’s ice hockey tourney

The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) won the title of National Ice Hockey Championship, 2024, in women’s category by defeating its arch rival Ladakh by 3-2 at Kaza in tribal district of Lahaul and Spiti today. In men’s category, Ladakh won the title by defeating the ITBP by 4-1.
In women’s category, the silver medal was awarded to Ladakh team and the bronze medal was won by Himachal Pradesh team. In men’s category, the silver medal was won by ITBP team and bronze medal was won by the Indian Army team.
Under the aegis of the Ice Hockey Association of India, Ice Hockey of Lahaul Spiti and Spiti Administration, the championship commenced on January 19 at Ice Hockey Rink, Kaza, wherein 11 teams participated.
Kinnaur Deputy Commissioner Torul S Ravish was the chief guest of the closing ceremony of the event. General secretary of Ice Hockey Association of India Harjinder Singh Jindi, ITBP Commandant Officer Bansat Kumar Nogal, Himachal Pradesh Ice Hockey Association president Abhay Dogra and Kaza Additional Deputy Commissioner Rahul Jain were present at the event.
DC Torul S Ravish said, “It is a matter of pride for Spiti that national level ice hockey competitions are being organised and the infrastructure is being improved here. We will also make efforts to develop ice hockey infrastructure in Kinnaur district.”
Lahaul and Spiti MLA Ravi Thakur could not attend the programme. In a message to the organisers, he announced Rs 1 lakh for the HP team, who won the bronze medal in the women’s category. He also announced Rs 10,000 to the participants presenting the cultural programme in the closing ceremony.
