The five-day 34th State-Level Industrial Training Institute (ITI) Sports Meet (Men) concluded successfully at ITI-Paplog, Sarkaghat, in Mandi district yesterday. The closing ceremony was held in the presence of Naresh Kumar Verma, Additional Director of Technical Education, who attended as the chief guest.
Principal Lata Devi welcomed the chief guest by presenting a shawl, cap and a memento. She said over 400 players from 12 districts of Himachal Pradesh participated in the competition. Events included kabaddi, kho-kho, volleyball, badminton, basketball and athletics.
In his address, the Additional Director congratulated the organising team, students, coaches and staff for the successful event. He emphasised the importance of sports in the overall development of students and encouraged them to stay physically active and avoid drugs. He said students should aim to make a mark at the national level through hard work, discipline and dedication.
He added that ITI institutions play an important role in the development of society and the country, and students from these institutes are contributing positively across various sectors. The event also featured a cultural programme by girl students of the host institute. Winning players were awarded medals and trophies by the chief guest.
Results: Overall sports champion trophy: Tie between Hamirpur and Mandi; overall athletics champion trophy: Shimla; basketball: 1st – Chamba, 2nd – Hamirpur; volleyball: 1st – Mandi, 2nd – Bilaspur; kabaddi: 1st – Hamirpur, 2nd – Solan; kho-kho: 1st – Shimla, 2nd – Solan; badminton: 1st – Kangra, 2nd – Mandi; best march past: 1st – Kinnaur, 2nd – Mandi, 3rd – Shimla.
