The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare honoured the Solan-based Industrial Training Institute’s (ITI) Red Ribbon Club for effectively conducting awareness programmes on HIV/AIDS among the youth and ensuring their active participation in this national-level programme. The award was given by the Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan at Kedarnath Sahni auditorium in Delhi recently where the institute was represented by Subhash Sharma. Institute principal Chaman Lal Tanwar lauded the work done by students and staff in spreading awareness on the key issue among the youth and said in future they would work with added zeal and enthusiasm.

Seminar on drug abuse held

In lieu of the special campaign of Himachal Pradesh University “Special Drive Prevention of Drug Abuse and Alcoholism” from November 15 to December 15, the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies organised a seminar in which the students of MSc environment science, MBA-rural development faculty members participated in different activities. Prof RP Sharma, the director of the department, inaugurated the seminar and shared the case studies of drug abuse and appealed to students and faculty members to spread awareness about the ill-effects of drug addiction. He said there was a need to run a special drive against the social evil throughout the year and youngsters could play the role of an ambassador. A lecture on “Problem of Drug Abuse in India” was delivered by Dr Randhir Singh Ranta, faculty member and coordinator of MBA-rural development. He said a peaceful state, Himachal Pradesh was now engulfed by the drug abuse and there was a need to combat the problem with the combined efforts of the government and the community. An oath to initiate the fight against the menace of drug abuse and make the peaceful Himachal a drug-free state was administered to all.

Training programme for acupressure therapy

In continuation to various kinds of teachings and learning being propagated by the Yog Manav Vikas Trust, Banikhet, through its training programmes in Antarnirman Complex at Sukrain Bain (Dalhousie), a training programme for acupressure therapy, becoming popular and effective as an alternative source of treatment, was concluded here recently. Dr Parveen Dhingra, professional in touch therapy and reliving thousands of people in the National Capital Region and Haryana, explained the basic philosophy and principles of acupressure therapy to the local aspirants, jail inmates, police personnel and their families during a monthly session at different locations of the district.

Students get merit certificates

Thirty students of DAV Public School, Manai in Jawali subdivision, got merit certificates from the Himachal Board of School Education, Dharamsala. They brought laurels to their school and village. Principal Dinesh Kaushal distributed the certificates to the students of Classes X and XII. Merit holder students in X included Ashima Rana, Vatsal, Stuti Dogra, Rishika Walia, Saneha, Hasakshi, Sayna Sharma, Abhay Choudhary, Shubham Patial, Punit Kumar, Surbhi, Ritik Bagga, Akshit Chauhan, Kanvi Thakur, Gargi, Sakshi Kappor, Ritika Sharma, Akash Rana, Rishiket, Abhishek thakur, Simran Choudhary, Ridhi Rana and Anish Walia. From Class X, the merit holders were Nitish Patial, Arya Kaushal, Arshit Dogra, Anika Guleria, Nancy Gill, Rohit Kuashal and Avantika Rana received merit certificate. The principal congratulated the students and teachers for their dedication and hard work and wished them good luck for the future.
