ITI students visit Himachal Vidhan Sabha

Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha are temples of democracy, said speaker of Himachal Vidhan Sabha Vipin Parmar while interacting with students of Shimla ITI on Thursday. The students were there to witness the proceedings. They were informed about the functioning of the Assembly and how elected representatives raise issues concerning their constituencies and their people in the House.

Scope of botany discussed

The department of botany, Centre of Excellence Government College, Sanjauli, in collaboration with wet labs organised a two-day workshop on “Scope of botany beyond phylogeny in application-oriented research” for students. At the end, a test was conducted and Sakshi, Yogita, Tania and Shreya won the opportunity to represent the college at the IIT-Mumbai in July during its annual fest. The resource person for the workshop was Dr Tanuj Sharma. The prize winners were felicitated by the Principal of the college Dr CB Mehta and Deepti Gupta, Assistant Professor, department of botany.

Workshop on quality in industry

One-day workshop on “quality and maintenance in the industry” was organised for the final-year mechanical engineering students at the Shoolini University. Ratnakar Acharya, DGM, Anand Group, and Archana Sharma from Parwanoo Industries were the key speakers at the workshop. Ratnakar Acharya dwelt upon the Six Sigma and its value in the industry. The students were also introduced to the maintenance of measuring tools and their calibration. Acharya explained the schedule of maintenance of machinery in the industry and its importance. The purpose of the workshop was to prepare students for placement, said Dr Abhilash Pathania, Assistant Prof, Mechanical Engineering. He said, “Shoolini University believes in quality and industry-based education and workshops are beneficial for students for their future career as well.”

ABVP seeks facilities for sts

ABVP activists on Thursday urged Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur to consider the demands of Schedule Tribes (STs). They said the roads in tribal areas were in poor condition, posts of teachers were lying vacant, and there was a shortage of hostels for tribal students. Stating that the Constitution of India provides 7.5-per cent reservation for Schedule Tribes, they urged the CM to implement the same in government jobs.

SFI protests at HPU

Dharna and demonstrations were organised on the campus of the Himachal Pradesh University on the call of Students Federation of India (SFI) to press long-pending demands. The protesters raised slogans against the alleged anti-student policies of the government. The SFI threatened to gherao the Vidhan Sabha on March 25 if the government and the university did not accept the demands to withdraw the fee hike, revoke the policy of commercialisation and privatisation of education, increase the budget of education and restore direct elections of Students Central Associations, said Ravinder Chandel and Gaurav Nathan, president and secretary of campus unit of the SFI. “Despite being a state-funded university, the HPU is facing several problems and the SFI has been raising these demands for quite sometime but the government and the university administration have failed to redress the problems,” they said.
