Shimla, July 30
Horticulture Minister Jagat Singh Negi today accused the BJP of trying to mislead apple growers on the use of universal cartons. “BJP leaders say they are not against universal carton but claim that the government has introduced it in a hurry. The government introduced the cartons after deliberating with all stakeholders for five months. And then the government gave them a month’s time to file objections, but no one filed any objection, including the BJP leaders, who are now raising objections,” said Negi.
“The BJP leaders should clearly spell out whether they are in support or against the universal carton,” he added.
The Horticulture Minister said that there was no opposition to the universal carton as it had been introduced after having detailed deliberations with all stakeholders. “I went to the Parala Fruit Mandi and found everyone happy with the carton. Besides, the growers are getting good price for their produce in universal carton. Even in Delhi’s mandi, the carton has been received well and grower are getting good price,” added Negi.
