The recent heavy monsoon rains and flashfloods on Wednesday night have resulted in an additional loss of around Rs 44 crore and affected 352 water supply schemes of the state Jal Shakti Vibhag in Himachal. This was stated by Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri at a review meeting with the officers of the department yesterday.
“During the current monsoon season, the Jal Shakti Department has suffered losses of Rs 196 crore affecting 2,421 schemes,” he disclosed. He said out of the 2,421 drinking water supply, irrigation and sewerage schemes which have been affected in this monsoons, 1,438 have been restored and the work to restore the remaining was going on.
He said the department’s water supply schemes in Kullu and Shimla districts had suffered significant damage. The Kurpan scheme in Shimla’s Matiyana area has been severely impacted.
