Jetty upgrade, new dockyards to ensure safe boating in Chamera Lake soon: DC

Deputy Commissioner Mukesh Repaswal has directed officials concerned to take effective and timely steps to strengthen tourism activities in Plei and Tipri villages located near Taleru on the banks of the Chamera Lake. He was speaking at a meeting held at Taleru to discuss ongoing tourism development initiatives.

Repaswal said that the work to improve jetty at Taleru was underway. Besides, to regulate boating between Taleru and Plei and Tipri villages near the Chamera-I reservoir, dockyards would be established to ensure safe operation and parking of boats, he added.

He instructed the District Tourism Development Officer and the Block Development Officer (BDO), Salooni, to ensure active participation of the local youth in tourism-related activities. He said that involving young people would not only improve facilities for visiting tourists but also create direct and indirect self-employment opportunities for the residents of the area.

Repaswal said that the BDO, Salooni, had completed the renovation of toilets, restaurants and other tourist amenities at Taleru. A parking space for around 20 vehicles had also been developed. Other tourist facilities were in progress and would be completed soon, he added.

The DC also instructed the officials concerned to strictly prohibit the use of plastic at the tourist site and strengthen cleanliness and monitoring mechanisms. He added that continuous efforts would be made to develop Taleru as a major tourist destination so that it could emerge as a well-equipped location in the district. The DC also reviewed progress on various developmental schemes, including the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, shelter arrangements for disaster-affected families, e-KYC of MGNREGA job cards, Aadhaar linking with job cards and family records and the initiative to declare identified areas tobacco-free.
