In a commendable move towards holistic development and girl child empowerment, the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) has launched a special initiative targeting schoolgirls aged 10 to 12 in Himachal Pradesh. Under its corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme, the NTPC is organising a workshop themed “Empowered girls, empowered nation” during the summer vacation on its campus in Bilaspur.

The workshop focuses on self-defence, yoga, sports, arts and crafts and personality development. A total of 47 girls studying in Class 6 from government schools in the Kol dam-affected districts of Bilaspur, Mandi, Solan and Shimla are participating.

The initiative, which began on July 12 and will conclude on August 8, also includes training in stage anchoring, public speaking and value-based education. A key highlight of the programme is the planned follow-up sessions during the winter vacation, with continued engagement until the girls complete their higher secondary education.

NTPC’s human resource head at Bilaspur, Umesh Kumar, said a seven-day winter follow-up workshop has already been conducted successfully, where the girls participated in various activities and shared their experiences. He confirmed that such programmes will continue in the future.

Additionally, NTPC-Kol Dam has provided sports equipment to 35 government schools across the four districts, benefiting over 6,200 students and contributing to their physical and mental development.
