Jobless awaits house under PM Awas Yojana
NURPUR, JUNE 10
Rajinder Kumar, a member of the Gaddi Schedule Tribe (ST) of Bherkhud village in Punder gram panchayat of Nurpur, has lost his home as the heavy rain that lashed the area recently damaged his kutcha house. The partially collapsed residence has become unfit to live in.
Rajinder was a daily wager but the two-month lockdown has left him jobless. The family’s survival is now dependent on the charity and help of the locals.
He said he had applied for a house under the Prime Minister Awas Yojana (PMAY) but he has not been given any government assistance so far.
Sarla Devi, pradhan of the local gram panchayat, said Rajinder was still to get a house under the PMAY. She said a survey of all kutcha houses in the panchayat had been conducted through geo-tagging and his name for grant-in-aid for a pucca house was yet to be cleared in the gram sabha meeting. In this connection, Nurpur SDM Surinder Thakur said the field staff of the Revenue Department was directed to prepare and submit a survey report of the damage to the house and relief would be given as per the relief manual. —OC
