Kullu, July 8
JUARE (Joint United Action for Resilience in Emergencies), a theatrical genre in which the methods of dealing with disasters have been presented very effectively, has made it to the Asia Book of Records and the India Book of Records after being staged simultaneously at 206 places of the district by school students on the occasion of World Environment Day on June 5. Apart from this, it was staged at 14 places in six other districts — Mandi, Bilaspur, Chamba, Una, Sirmaur and Hamirpur. The district administration had set the target of training 25,000 people simultaneously by staging a play together for its entry in the Asia and India Book of Records. However, the data collected revealed that 61,498 persons participated in the event.
A programme was held to celebrate the occasion at Dev Sadan here today. Education Minister Govind Singh Thakur was the chief guest and Kamal Kishore, Member Secretary, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), was the special guest on the occasion. The chief awarded prizes to various schools and panchayats under the JUARE programme. The NCC cadets presented the JUARE act on the occasion.
The minister said the possibility of disaster cannot be avoided but due to proper knowledge of disaster management, the loss of life and property due to disaster can be minimised. He said, “The JUARE programme, started as a campaign in Kullu distrcit, is an important programme based on community participation with the aim of making the public aware about the disaster and to train them for the rescue and relief arrangements at the time of disaster.”
Kishore lauded the efforts of the district administration for initiating JUARE which is directly related to the disaster-related matters of the country. He said that NDMA chairman PM Narendra Modi had provided 10-point guidelines related to disaster management and JUARE covers most of these. He said efforts would be made to promote this programme in other parts of the country as well.
Kullu officiating District Magistrate Prashant Sirkek said 61,498 persons participated in the event on June 5 after which it was registered in Asia and India books of records. He said it was the first instance of such a large number of people being trained simultaneously. He said JUARE is a unique initiative of District Disaster Management Kullu to spread awareness to deal with various types of calamities and to avoid loss when disaster strikes. Its objective is also to create a task force locally consisting of local people, including women and children, he added.
