The Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Department in Kangra, the largest district of Himachal Pradesh, has begun preparations for the upcoming panchayat elections in the hill state, scheduled for December this year. However, the exact date of the polls is yet to be notified by the State Election Commission. The district authorities have started dispatching election material to Block Development Offices (BDOs). There are 811 village panchayats in the district.
The draft electoral rolls, incorporating the latest voter inclusions, will be published on October 6. The State Election Commission (SEC) notified the schedule for the preparation and final publication of electoral rolls for Panchayati Raj Institutions, Municipalities and Municipal Corporations across the state on October 1.
According to the notification issued by State Election Commissioner Anil Kumar Khachi, the draft electoral rolls will be published on October 6. Claims and objections can be filed between October 8 and 17, which will be decided by the Revising Authority by October 27. Appeals can be submitted within seven days, up to November 3.
