Kangra civic bodies to focus on adequate parking, waste mgmt

Kangra Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa said it was very important to have special focus on parking, constructing sidewalks and toilets in markets, falling under the local municipal bodies of the district, for the convenience of people.

Chairing a review meeting of municipal bodies at the DC office auditorium, he said appropriate action should be taken against illegal constructions. He laid emphasis on increasing the source of income for municipal bodies to ensure effective development works. He gave instructions to take appropriate steps to obtain arrears of house tax.

DC Bairwa said it was essential to prepare a work plan to make municipal bodies beautiful and clean. For this, the officials of municipal bodies should regularly prepare plans looking at the future facilities for the residents.

He said it is mandatory to take necessary steps for solid waste management in urban bodies and the funds required for this have been made available to all municipal bodies. He said municipal bodies that have not marked site for solid garbage plant should take necessary steps to finalise it at the earliest. Coordination of municipal bodies will be established with the Public Works Department officials for the execution of the plastic waste, he added.

The DC said the municipal bodies work for the development of the district under various mandates. Reports of development works, which have not yet been initiated, should be prepared and sent immediately, the DC directed the officials.

Bairwa also discussed urban housing, urban self-help group and other schemes in detail and instructed the officials to take appropriate steps to achieve 100 per cent effectiveness. He said appropriate steps should be taken to benefit eligible people under the Swanidhi scheme and work plan should be prepared to strengthen urban self-help groups for strengthening their economic conditions.

ADC Saurabh Jassal, Dharamsala MC Commissioner Zafar Iqbal and Palampur MC Commissioner Ashish Sharma, along with other officials, were present on the occasion.
