Despite the ongoing monsoon challenges, the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan continues to gain momentum in Kangra district. A district-level review meeting of the National TB Elimination Program (NTEP) was held on Thursday, chaired by Chief Medical Officer Dr Anuradha Sharma and conducted by District Health Officer and TB Programme Officer Dr RK Sood.

The meeting focused on progress, challenges and future strategies to eliminate tuberculosis from the district. Dr Anuradha emphasised that public participation — from panchayats to schoolchildren, NGOs and frontline workers — is the backbone of the campaign. She remarked that “rain or shine, Kangra’s commitment remains firm.”

Dr Sood highlighted that special attention is being given to high-risk groups such as the elderly, diabetics, malnourished individuals, smokers and HIV-positive patients. Those testing negative after screening are being provided free TB Preventive Treatment (TPT).

WHO Consultant Dr Niket Satapara commended Kangra’s performance on key indicators but stressed the need for faster implementation of programme activities. He also underlined the importance of nutritional and emotional support through Nikshay Mitras, community members and organisations who adopt TB patients.

Applauding the success of Nikshay Shivirs (TB awareness and screening camps) despite heavy rains, Dr Anuradha honoured several top performers. Dr Tilak Bhagra was recognised for best X-ray performance, Dr Richa Mehrotra for organising the best Nikshay Shivir and ASHA facilitator Sunita for her exceptional mobilisation efforts. Antriksh Dogra received recognition for outstanding contribution, while Dr Anupama Singh, Dr Naveen Rana and Dr Dilwar Singh were given special appreciation for their work.
