The Kangra police have busted six Punjab-based gangs involved in peddling narcotics in the district.
Kangra SP Shallini Agnihotri said three gangs were operational in Kangra, one each in Nagrota, Palampur and Dharamsala.
The SP said a person, who was booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, revealed that they had purchased the contraband from Langra Ram of Punjab.
Today, the Dharamsala police found Langra Ram, a resident of Bamnipal village, Tarn Taran, wandering in Dharamsala along with his driver Rakesh Kumar of Jalandhar. During search of their vehicle, cops seized 54 grams of heroin.
“The arrest of Langra Ram, a major supplier of heroin in the region, is a big success,” said Agnihotri.
The SP said on January 22, the patrolling team signalled a car to stop. She said cops seized 30 grams of heroin from the possession of Sashank Bisht, a resident of Dehradun, and other car occupants—Ayush Soni of Dharamsala and Shewatang Sahi of Chilgari— escaped from the spot.
Ayush and Shewtang, who had fled from the spot after attacking the police team, had also been arrested, said Agnihotri, adding that the trio were also linked to Langra Ram.
The accused were produced before the court, which remanded them in a three-day police custody.
A case under the NDPS Act has been registered against the accused.
