Kangra youth duped of Rs 6 lakh by travel agent, FIR registered

A case of fraud involving Rs 6 lakh has come to light in Kangra district, where a youth was allegedly duped by a woman travel agent, who promised to send him abroad for employment.

The complainant, Ashish Kumar, a resident of Kallar village in Kangra, lodged an FIR against her.

In his complaint, Ashish said he had approached the agent in March 2024, seeking a job opportunity in Ireland. A formal agreement was signed between the two parties on January 20, 2025, in which the agent promised to arrange a job for him in Ireland.

Ashish claimed that he paid Rs 6 lakh to the agent and also handed over his original passport, educational certificates and other documents.

However, in May 2025, Ashish received his passport back. The visa had been rejected by the embassy. Upon contacting the Ireland Embassy, he discovered that the work permit letter submitted by the agent to the embassy on his behalf was fake.

When Ashish confronted the agent and demanded his money back, she allegedly threatened him and warned of implicating him in a false case. Thereafter, he filed a formal complaint with the Kangra police.

Following his complaint, a case has been registered against the woman under Sections 318(4) and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Police officials confirmed that investigations were going on but the accused was yet to be arrested.
