Pawnesh Kumar, an officer of the 1989 batch of the Indian Forest Service (IFS), is the new Head of the Forest Department, Himachal Pradesh. Kumar assumed the charge of Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (Head of Forest Force), Himachal Pradesh. Earlier, he was rendering his services as Principal Chief Conservator of Forest, CPD, IDP, Solan.

Hailing from Busal-Baroh of Kangra district, he graduated from Agricultural University, Palampur. He completed his MSc and PhD from University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni. He has the distinction of being the first to get into IFS from Nauni University. He has served the state in all the wings of the department — Territorial, Wildlife, EAPs and Van Nigam. He is presently working as Managing Director in Van Nigam.
