Girls dominated the top positions in Class X results, declared by the Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education Tuesday evening.
As per Suresh Soni, chairman of the education board, there were 23 girls and 14 boys merit holders.
Tanu from Ishan Public Senior Secondary School, Samloti, in Nagrota Bagwan area of Kangra district has topped with 98.7% (691/700). Kshitiz Sharma from Gurukul Public School, Gopalnangar, in Harmirpur, scored 98.57% (690/700) for the second position while Vansh Gupta from Glory Public School, Bilaspur, Shagun Rana from Ishan Public Senior Secondary School, Samloti, in Nagrota Bagwan and Anisha Sharma from Government High School, Pantehra, in Ghumarwin area of Bilaspur district scored 98.43% (689/700) to share the third position.
Shreya Sharma from Minerva Senior Secondary School, Ghumarwin, in Bilaspur district scored 98.29% (688/700) and came fourth. The fifth position, with 98.14% (687/700), was grabbed jointly by six students — Ansh Bharadwaj from New Era School of Sciences, Chhatri, in Bharmour area of Chamba district, Vanshika from Amar Shanti Model Public School in Baroh area of Kangra district, Karun Kumar from Government Senior Secondary School, Holi, in Chamba district, Shagun Sharma of Minerva Senior Secondary School, Ghumarwin, in Bilaspur district, Laila from DAV Public School, Rangli area, in Manali in Kullu district and Nisha from Swami Vivekanand Senior Secondary School, Ramnagar, from Mandi district.
The overall pass percentage was 68.11% this year, about 8% higher than last year’s 60.74%. The pass percentage of girls was 71.5% and that of boys was 64.94%, Soni said.
The chairman said 1,04,323 students had appeared in the examinations this year. The answersheets of those who bagged the first 100 positions were rechecked by authorities so that there was no mistake.
He appreciated the efforts of the staff of Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education in preparing the result amidst the lockdown.
Due to the installation of CCTV cameras by the education board in almost all examination centres, this year there was a dramatic drop in copying cases. Only 87 such cases were detected in the entire state, the chairman added.
