Kangra’s Urvashi Thapa has been selected to represent India in the International Master Veteran Badminton Competition to be held in Thailand. The announcement was made by Vilas Hans, general secretary of the District Kangra Badminton Association, who lauded Thapa’s remarkable achievement and consistent performance on the national and international stage.

Thapa’s selection comes after an impressive performance at the National Master Veteran Badminton Competition held in Goa from March 16 to March 23, where she won two silver medals in the 50+ age category. A total of nine players from District Kangra participated in the national event, with Thapa emerging as one of the standout performers.

The wife of a naval officer, Thapa’s badminton journey began as a club player before she eventually earned a spot on the Navy team. Over the years, she has cemented her reputation as a top veteran badminton player, representing India internationally for four consecutive years. In 2021, she competed in Spain at the European Masters, followed by an appearance at an international tournament in Japan in 2022. Most recently, in 2024, she represented India in the prestigious All England Master International Competition.

Now, she is set to make her mark once again in the 50+ age category at the upcoming competition in Thailand. Her selection has been met with widespread appreciation, with District Badminton Association president Sunil Manocha and other officials extending their congratulations on her national success and wishing her the best for the international challenge ahead.
