Keeping a check on drug trade a priority: Mandi SP

Mandi SP Sakshi Verma said here today that checking drug trade in Mandi district would be her priority. The menace affects the youth adversely as they are easy targets for offenders, she added.
The SP said the police authorities would wage a war against the drug mafia in the district in a bid to eliminate drug trade completely.
While addressing mediapersons, the newly appointed SP said she was determined to maintain law and order in the district and there would be no relaxation against the drug trade in Mandi.
The problem of drug addiction persisted at the state-level and police authorities were fully prepared to fight the challenges of drug trade, she added.
She said the police of Mandi had done excellent work against drugs in the past. Many prominent accused persons had been put behind bars. This campaign would be continued, she added.
“Apart from this, our focus will be to reduce crime against the women in the district. Suicide cases were increasing among women because of domestic violence and other forms of abuse,” she said.
“The Road Safety Act will be strictly implemented so that road accidents can be reduced to a minimum in Mandi. SSCrackdown on criminals involved in crimes like theft, robbery etc is also one of our goals. These goals of law and order can be achieved only with public cooperation,” the SP added, appealing to Mandi residents to fully cooperate with the police so that crimes could be reduced in the society. The SP said the police would play an important role in maintaining the law and order situation during the upcoming Shivratri festival and Lok Sabha Elections.
Talking about the state of traffic in the district, the SP said, “Necessary improvements will be made in view of the traffic in several areas — including ITI Chowk and Bhuli Chowk. CCTV cameras have been installed everywhere in the city. Out-of-order cameras will be identified and replaced with new cameras.”
“Integrated Traffic Management System has been approved for the Kiratpur-Manali four-lane. The work is going on mission mode on this project. CCTV Cameras equipped with automated systems will be installed on this highway soon for traffic management. It will ensure less human interference to manage the traffic system,” she added.
“A proper control room has been set up in this regard. The Integrated Traffic Management System will automatically issue challans to vehicles for the violation of traffic rules. This will reduce accidents. No person will be able to disobey traffic rules,” she said.
