Students of La Montessori School (LMS), Kelheli, have turned hope into tangible action. At the state-level model exhibition held in Shimla to mark the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, LMS Kelheli bagged the third prize in the ‘Safe Construction Models’ category — a welcome recognition of school-level innovation at a time when the state is rebuilding in the aftermath of devastating floods.

Representing the school were Arnav (Class X) and Radhika (Class XI). Their selection and success at the state-level, facilitated by the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), underscores how local educational initiatives are being channelled into broader efforts to strengthen resilience across the state.

The competition was part of the wider SAMARTH-2025 disaster-awareness campaign, which saw events being organised at both the district to the state level, encouraging students to design practical, technically sound models that helped mitigate disaster impact. District winners gathered at the state event to display innovations, ranging from retrofitting techniques to raised-plinth designs and soil-stabilising ideas.
