The snowfall, described as ‘heavy’ and ‘quite early’, has brought a significant drop in temperatures, with maximum temperatures plummeting by 15 to 18°C in places like Chamba, Dalhousie and Manali.
According to officials, Keylong received 20 cm of snowfall, while Gondhla received 26 cm, making it the earliest snowfall in the region since 2008. This year's snowfall is notable not only for its intensity, but also for its timing. Keylong's previous earliest snowfall was recorded on October 11, 2018, when it received 6 cm of snow.

The heavy snowfall has damaged trees laden with apple crops in Keylong, causing concerns for local farmers. "Not only heavy snow breaks the trees, but also too much moisture leads to rotting of the fruit," said an apple grower from Keylong. In lower parts of the state, heavy rain has hampered paddy harvesting, affecting the livelihood of farmers.
Despite the challenges, the snowfall is expected to boost the tourism sector in the region, attracting tourists from across the country.
The precipitation, triggered by a very active Western disturbance two days back, is expected to end today, and the weather will begin clearing up from tomorrow.
