Kin allege negligence behind woman's death, probe ordered

The Health Department today ordered an inquiry into the allegation levelled by family members of a 57-year-old woman from Haroli village, who died at the PGI, Chandigarh, today, that she was not properly taken care of by doctors at the local Civil Hospital. Haroli Block Medical Officer would head the inquiry.

Joginder Kaur, wife of Rajinder Singh, was diagnosed of stones in gall bladder. The doctors at the Civil Hospital advised her that a medical camp was being organised at the hospital the next day, under the National Health Mission. Akash Hospital of New Delhi would be the partners in the camp.

On Wednesday, just before the surgery, she was administered an injection at the camp, after which her health began to deteriorate. She was referred to the PGI, Chandigarh, where she died. Joginder Kaur’s son Sandeep alleged that his mother had no ailment other than gall bladder stones. He reported the matter to the police.

Meanwhile, the body was brought back to Una and a post-mortem examination was conducted at the district hospital. A case had been registered.
