Emphasising the significance of such events, he said literary festivals serve as vital platforms for gaining deeper insights into the district’s history, traditions, cuisine, attire and rich cultural heritage.
In his address, the minister remarked, “Kinnaur, with its ancient and vibrant cultural legacy, holds a unique place on the global stage for its literary and aesthetic richness. This festival provides an excellent opportunity for writers from Kinnaur and across the country to exchange ideas and foster dialogue on cultural and intellectual themes.”
He lauded the participation of students at the event, stressing the importance of cultural awareness among the youth. “In today’s world, it is crucial for the younger generation to understand and appreciate our deep-rooted heritage to ensure its preservation and promotion for future generations,” he added.
Drawing from his own literary experiences, Negi offered in-depth insights into Kinnaur’s history and culture. He described the tribal district — nestled in the lap of Kinner Kailash — as a land of untouched natural beauty, divine traditions and cultural diversity. He urged citizens to come forward and actively contribute to preserving Kinnaur’s unique identity and traditions.
Adding spiritual gravitas to the occasion, a special message and blessings from His Holiness the Dalai Lama were shared during the event.
The festival also hosted a panel discussion featuring prominent writers and scholars from the region and beyond. The Kinnaur Literature Festival promises to be not just a celebration of words and wisdom, but a meaningful step toward conserving and cherishing the district’s unique cultural identity.
