Shimla, August 14
Resident doctors stopped routine services at the Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital here today as part of the nationwide protests over the murder of a doctor at the RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata, West Bengal.
The resident doctors made themselves unavailable for OPDs, wards and OTs. They also held a silent protest in memory of the deceased at the hospital gate. However, emergency services and ICU were not affected and functioned as per schedule.
They are demanding that the Himachal Pradesh Medicare Service Persons and Medicare Service Institutions (Prevention of violence and damage to property) Amendment Act, 2017, must be notified and implemented without any delay.
The RDA warned that if its demand was not met at the earliest, it will escalate the agitation. Further, the RDA requested the IGMC principal to ensure adequate security and CCTV coverage at locations where the resident doctors operate 24x7 and where night duties are performed.
They have also demanded proper duty rooms with basic amenities for all doctors.
