Mandi, February 17
The police launched the intelligent traffic management system (ITMS) today in Kullu town as prt of mission zero to implement traffic rules.
Under the ITMS, the police will challan any vehicle through the Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) CCTV camera if the driver of a vehicle violates traffic rules in the town. The police have installed these CCTV cameras at key locations.
Overspeeding, not wearing helmet, wrong side parking and bike stunt are the common violations committed by negligent drivers, who will now be under surveillance round the clock.
The police have decided to launch a campaign to make people in the town aware about the ITMS system in 15 days. They will be apprised how this system will work.
With the launching of the ITMS system, the police are confident that they will check traffic violators. The police are planning to provide the ITMS system in Manali in the next phase, which is a key international tourist destination in the district.
Kullu district receives over 10,000 tourist vehicles everyday day during the peak season and the police have to struggle to deal with the traffic management.
Talking to The Tribune, SP, Kullu, Gaurav Singh said, “Today, we launched the ITMS system in the town to keep tab on traffic violators and chain snatchers. Rash driving, riding without helmet and seat belt, wrong parking of vehicles and chain snatching are common offences which will be monitored with the help of the camera.”
He said the ANPR camera had the capacity to read the number plate of a vehicle. The movement of a vehicle would be recorded in the camera along with time and date. These cameras would be monitored by police control room.
The SP stated, “We are planning to launch ITMS in Manali also. It will reduce the human intervention. People are advised to follow traffic rules strictly to make the district challan-free.”
