Kullu-Manali NH opened for traffic

The Kullu-Manali National Highway (NH 3) was restored on Sunday evening after the patches of the road washed away due to the flood in Beas on July 31 at Raison and Bindu Dhek near 18 Mile were partially repaired and thrown open for all types of vehicles. The work of the restoration of the highway was started by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) on Friday restoring the NH within two days.
About 100 metres of patch was restored in Raison which was badly damaged. The same spot was damaged in the floods in July last year as well. The patch of about 20 metres in Bindu Dhek was also repaired and thrown open to traffic from today. The residents heaved a sigh of relief as the NHAI has been able to restore the road in a record time.
A resident of Katrain village, Saurabh said, “Everybody had an apprehension that it would take a long time to restore connectivity through Raison but the NHAI has done a remarkable job”. Meanwhile, the traffic was diverted via the Left Bank through Raison bridge.
The black topping of the Raison patch damaged last year was also completed recently in March. This year the damages suffered by the NH have been comparatively less than last year so far. This year while two spots suffered major damage, last year about 12 spots on the NH having a cumulative length of 3,200 meters had suffered massive damages.
