Labour Dept starts unique initiative in educational institutions
The Labour Department has taken the initiative of hand holding various institutions for ensuring labour law compliances, with a beginning being made from educational institutions.
In the Shimla Zone, about 50 educational institutions have been visited in the last three months by the Labour Officer and Inspectors. “These institutes have been sensitised with respect to violations observed and time has been granted to rectify these violations,” said Manasi Sahay Thakur, Labour Commissioner-cum-Director Employment.
The provisions of the Maternity Benefit (Amendment) Act, 1961 and the provisions of the Gratuity Act, 1972 are not being implemented in most of the institutions, she said. Such institutions have been given time to rectify these violations, added Thakur. She said the primary objective of the initiative was to create awareness among the employers as well as employees with respect to different labour laws.
