Labourers given shelter in Delhi

Six migrant labourers from Kullu and Lahaul-Spiti, who were stuck due to lockdown, were provided shelter in a sarai in Karampura (near Moti Nagar metro station), New Delhi, and are now safe, said Deputy Resident Commissioner, New Delhi Vivek Mahajan.

Calls were received from the workers last evening seeking help. Within no time, they were rehabilitated in the sarai run by Himachal Social Bodies Federation by K R Verma, R K Sharma and team with provision of free board and lodging facilities, he added.

The office of the Resident Commissioner at Delhi with the help of social bodies and NGOs is also distributing free ration, medicines and other essential commodities to the needy from Himachal Pradesh. Free ration has been distributed to 38 needy Himachali families.

Besides, essential commodities are being supplied in areas of Rohini, Badarpur, Mehrauli, Chatarpur, Pandavnagar, Tughlakabad, Rithala, slums of Khaurha colony, Paper Market, Mayur Vihar Phase 3 and Mahipalpur.

Enlisting a few other services by Himachalis, Mahajan informed that residents of Himachali Kangra Niketan Society Vikaspuri were providing free cooked meals to 400 needy workers for the last three days. Pawan Sharma, Rajesh Choudhry and Sanjeev Dogra, residents of Dwarka, along with officers of local administration distributed free food to 500 persons.

He said responding to the appeal made by Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur, Social Bodies and NGOs are coming forward to help stranded Himachalis and supplementing the efforts of state government and Resident Commissioner office at New Delhi.
