Residents of the Miyar valley in Lahaul-Spiti district are irked over poor telecommunication services and interrupted power supply.

They said there was a proposal to install Jio network towers to improve telecom services in the region, but no progress had been made in this direction. As of now, the BSNL was the sole service provider of telecommunication services, which often developed snag.

They complained that an erratic power supply is another major issue they have been facing. Power remains snapped for months together during winter. Since the valley remains under a thick blanket of snow, staff of the HP State Electricity Board finds it difficult to restore power supply.

Gopal, a valley resident, said during summer months, low-voltage posed a great difficulty for them. Residents demanded that power lines should be laid underground to prevent hardships during winter months.

Amarnath, pradhan of the Tingret gram panchayat, said residents of the valley had been facing poor telecommunication services for many years. The government had proposed to provide Jio services to the area residents, but nothing had been done.

He urge the government to find out a permanent solution to their problems.
