The Lahaul valley in tribal district of Lahaul and Spiti will soon have a heliport as the district administration is actively seeking suitable land for the project. This initiative was launched after receiving directives from the Chief Minister to identify appropriate locations for the heliport.

According to official sources, approximately eight to 10 bighas of land is required for heliport. The district administration is currently evaluating possible sites near the district headquarters in Keylong.

The Revenue Department in Keylong is in close contact with local panchayats in the area to determine a viable site for the heliport. Upon finalising the ideal location, relevant documents will be prepared, and a detailed report will be submitted to the district administration for further processing.

SDM-cum-District Tourism Officer Keylong Rajneesh Sharma directed the Tehsildar to identify the land near Tandi in the district. He added that the instructions from the state government regarding the heliport are being strictly followed. All necessary formalities will be completed promptly and the final report will be sent to the government soon.

Lahaul-Spiti MLA Anuradha Rana expressed her enthusiasm about the heliport project, emphasising that it would benefit the people of the remote region. She highlighted that the heliport would not only support the growing tourism industry in Lahaul, especially in winter sports, but would also be very useful for emergency medical services. The heliport would be especially helpful during the heavy snowfall in winter, facilitating quicker transportation of patients and medical supplies.

Development of fresh infrastructure is likely to make Lahaul-Spiti more accessible to both domestic and international tourists. Furthermore, it will enhance the connectivity of the region, which often faces isolation due to harsh winter conditions.
